What To Expect

Hillerod
Hillerød is the heart of North Sealand. A vibrant city with vital connections to the entire region: historically, in our time, and in terms of traffic itself. Historically, Hillerød was the sanctuary of the kings – here they enjoyed life and participated in their favourite sport, hunting, which is why the largest Renaissance castle in the Nordic region, Frederiksborg, is located here, as is the UNESCO World Heritage list par force hunting landscape of North Sealand.

Frederiksborg Castle is one of the most famous castles in Denmark and for good reason: situated on three islands surrounded by a lake and beautiful gardens, it's simply breathtaking. Home to the Museum of National History, the grounds are full of rich history, architecture, and gardens. Frederiksborg Castle was built in the early decades of the 17th century by King Christian IV.

Strøget is a nickname from the 1800s and covers the streets Frederiksberggade, Nygade, Vimmelskaftet and Østergade and Nytorv square, Gammeltorv Square and Amagertorv Square.

Originally, Nyhavn was a busy commercial port where ships from all over the world would dock. The area was packed with sailors, ladies of pleasure, pubs and alehouses. Today the beautiful old houses have been renovated and restaurants dominate the old port. Nyhavn is filled with people enjoying the relaxed atmosphere by the canal, jazz music and great food.

The Little Mermaid
The Little Mermaid at the seashore is something you shouldn't miss. Based on Andersen's story character, she appeared here in the beginning of the 20th century and since then had become the symbol of Copenhagen and Denmark. She's sitting on the stone not far from the castle, observing with a little sadness the wide panorama of the bay.
